This M. Fungus (Metharizium Anisopliae) Product is for Varroa Mite Control.
The metharizium is sold as fully colonized petri dishes of agar that are sporulating. The hive keeper removes the hive lid, then the lid of the petri and upends the colonized agar onto the top of the frames and returns the lid. The bees will clean up the Agar in a few days, spreading spores as they do.
We know now that Varroa mites contribute to the viral load that our European Honey bees are so susceptible to. There are other chemical mite controls that are not so user friendly as the Metharizium fungus.
Best timing seems to be post honey harvest but while day temps still get above 20 Celsius. For the southeastern interior of BC -think 3rd week August or later.
This fungus is used for control of several small parasites including the common bed bug and more importantly, Varroa Mites.
